25 highest paid celebrities in the world
The world's highest-paid celebrities made a combined $6.1 billion before taxes and fees, down $200 million from 2019 after the Covid-19 pandemic closed stadiums and canceled concerts around the world. The decline was the first since 2016, the year after Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao won nearly half a billion dollars for the most valuable fight in boxing history. But even with the coronavirus lurking — and the US literally catching on after the murder of George Floyd — the spectacle continued.
The highest-earning celebrities were Kylie Jenner and Kanye West, who earned $590 million and $170 million, respectively. West collected most of his earnings from his Yeezy sneaker line deal with Adidas, while part of Kylie's fortune came from selling 51% of her cosmetics company to Coty in January. Though she has exaggerated over the years about the enormity of her business, the amount raised in the transaction is real — enough to rank as one of the biggest celebrity earnings of all time.
Three streaming giants have distributed $300 million to the list's stars, including Ryan Reynolds (18th with $71.5 million), Billie Eilish (43rd with $53 million) and Jerry Seinfeld (46th with $71.5 million). $51 million). Alone, Netflix accounted for more than two-thirds of the total value.
The live shows generated the biggest income of the career for some names in music. Ed Sheeran's “Divide Tour” attracted 8.9 million fans, grossed $776 million and surpassed U2's record for tour amounts. Other artists will have the amounts affected next year, as shows from Taylor Swift (#25, $63.5 million) to McCartney (#93, $37 million) have been canceled because of the pandemic.
