M4A4(75) Sherman - Walkaround - Doetinchem.

The Sherman M4A4 would have had a cast nose, turret
and a welded hull, with a 75mm cannon.
It would have had applique armour welded
in front of the crew positions and
additional armour welded to the sides.

M4A4 was fitted with a different engine
(Chrysler A57 multibank) then the other
production models of the Sherman.
it would require a longer hull
and more track blocks, for this longer engine
and thus the most distinguishing feature of the M4A4 was
the wider longitudinal spacing between the bogies.

The M4A4 was produced in large numbers and was reliable
American tank, but would be the model to see the most service
with different nations, like the French, British, Canadians,
and even the Chinese army.

The Sherman at Doetinchem would have seen
action with the 10th Canadian Armoured Regiment Fort Garry Horse
as part of the 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade.

On April 1, 1945, this tank is deployed to liberate
the Achterhoek and Doetinchem.
During the liberation of Drenthe, the tank was disabled in
Hooghalen on April 17, 1945 by a German Panzerfaust.

It would eventually end up on a vehicle yard
In October 1945, the tank was moved from Hooghalen
to Doetinchem and
refurbished by the men of the FGH regiment and placed
in the Canada Park as a memorial and a gift to
the people of the city.
1965 the tank would be restored by the same men that gifted the
tank the first time.
