Flamingo is a bird belonging to the Phoenicopteridae family of the Phoenicopteriformes order. Formerly it belonged to the order Ciconiiformes. Traditionally all species were included in the genus Phoenicopteruss, but today the Andean flamingo and James' flamingo are considered a separate genus, Phoenicoparrus, because of certain differences in the beak, and the lesser flamingo was also included in its own genus, Phoeniconaias.

Flamingos are wading birds with a curved beak, measuring between 90 and 150 cm. Their color comes from a diet rich in carotenes, which are pigments they get from algae and shrimp.
