Does Saw Palmetto Really Work for Hair Loss?
Have you ever heard about Saw palmetto?
Saw palmetto is a popular herb-based medicine. Some people use it to reverse hair loss, and in this video, we will learn a little more about this fruit, also known as Serenoa repens.
Saw palmetto is an extract from the fruit of Serenoa repens. It has anti-inflammatory action, aids the treatment of prostate and bladder infections (cystitis), and some evidence suggests that it also prevents hair loss.
Sadly, there isn't any scientific proof yet that saw palmetto really prevents hair loss. The main studies don't have enough samplings to ensure the results.
According to a 2012 study, saw palmetto can inhibit an enzyme that blocks the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, the hormone responsible for male hair loss.
Besides, saw palmetto can also have anti-inflammatory effects on the body, which could offer protection against some of the causes of hair loss.
In a small study from 2002, researchers gave saw palmetto and beta-sitosterol supplement for 10 men with androgenetic alopecia.
The researchers noted an improvement in 6 of the 10 men. Since this study was small, an additional investigation is still needed to support these results.
But, how do you use saw palmetto? Watch the video to learn more!
