Knife Making: DIY Hand Forged Damascus Hidden Tang Knife Build: Part 1 Forging the Blade

In this video I start my first Damascus blade. It is 15 layers of 1084 and 15n20. Thermo cycled 4 times just to ensure the grain had settled, then quenched. I did 3 cycles of etching which consisted of etch in ferric chloride for 5 minutes, neutralize each time, lightly sand with 1200 grit and clean before the next cycle. Once all the etching was done, I heated water in the microwave to around 150 degrees F and added about two cups of instant coffee. The blade stayed in that for about 4 to 5 hours. Rinsed with cold water and lightly oiled with olive oil and polished with a jewelry cloth. In the next video I plan on making and fitting the guard along with making the handle and finishing this guy up.

Stay tuned for Part 2, where we fit the guard and handle to this little guy.
