Hearing vs listening vs obeying

We often tell our spouse or kids or parents that "You are not listening to me". Is that actually the case? We are always listening but we might not agree with what they are saying.

When we pay attention to something we are hearing, we term it listening. However, when we listen to someone, we analyze what they say but we might not agree with it. This is mostly termed as not listening, whereas, we are not obeying the other person.

Next time, when someone tells you, "You are not listening to me". Please tell them I have heard you, I have analyzed what you said but I don't agree with what you are saying. I don't want to obey you.
