HIS FIRST REACTION
"Congratulations to Charlie! I've been lucky to sail a lot downwind and have had a greatnorthern experience. I'm very happy to arrive this Sunday afternoon with the sun shining,to see everyone in the channel. It's magnificent! Thank you to everyone for being here, for being in Les Sables d'Olonne!"
HIS RACE
On the last big ocean race before this winter’s Vendée Globe, the skipper of MaliziaSeaExplorer establishes himself as one of the podium favourites for the legendary nonstop race round the world race by today adding a successive second position to the onehe took on the westwards solo race from Lorient to New York earlier last month. Arrivingin the USA he finished only 2 hrs and 19 minutes adrift, remaining a threat to winnerYoann Richomme until the final miles of the race.
Herrmann and winner Charlie Dalin, who finished last night at 1144hrs local time, werethe only two skippers to break out of a low pressure trough one week ago, a tacticalescape which allowed them to build a big lead on their pursuers.
Bidding for victory the German skipper took a very challenging northerly route whichrequired him to fight through very light winds for many hours in order to get to fastdownwind conditions on the NE and E side of a high pressure system. His audaciouschoice, yielding speeds between 20 and 25kts at times showed promise even untilyesterday, winner Dalin admitting to having last minute concerns even at 24 hours fromthe finish line.
With an ocean racing career stretching back to a first Mini Transat in 2001, then includingThe Transat in Class 40 in 2008, the same westwards race he has just completed,Herrman has now made three IMOCA podium finishes in two years after co-skippering his
Malizia team to third place on the crewed The Ocean Race, the crewed round the worldrace during which they won historic event’s longest ever, most difficult Southern Oceanstage from Cape Town to Itajai, Brazil.
Celebrating his 43rd birthday on the eve of the start from New York, Herrmann was in thematch from the get go, always electing to be in the northernmost group. The first fewdays of the race were especially challenging as the winds were very unstable as thecombined effects of the east flowing Gulf Stream current and its heat, the moving weatherfront and mixed up weather systems.
But Herrmann retained his customary analytical inner calm and put his trust in his routingand – after many hours of study – combined with a measure of intuition – to head northaround and across the huge anticyclone which was dominating the North Atlantic, playingto the strengths of his VPLP designed IMOCA which is orientated most towards the strongwinds and big seas of the Big South where he considers the Vendée Globe can be won.
Arriving into the French home of the Vendée Globe against a backdrop of the final day ofEuropean elections might be considered significant considering Herrmann internationaloutlook. As comfortable speaking French, English and Spanish as his native tongue, he Isat the spearhead of the drive to make solo and short handed ocean racing moreinternational and is a passionate, driven environmental campaigner with his program
ARace We Must Win - Climate Action Now
operating on multiple different fronts.
And while he has come to enjoy most of solo ocean racing’s challenges, he cherishescompany, admitting to have grown to love his experience racing round the world with hisMalizia crew but equally racing double handed. His fifth place on the last Vendée Globewas as much the result of his ingrained consummate seamanship – striving to deliver highdaily averages, playing the long ultra marathon game rather than ‘crash and burn’ – afterlearning so much from record passages with luminaries Giovanni Soldini of Italy andFrances Joyon with whom Herrmann sailed two Jules Verne attempts, missing the recordby two days in 2012

Sunscribe to this channel for our exclusive Vendee Globe and Americas Cup reports.
The skipper of the Verdier designed IMOCA Macif Santé Prevoyance broke the finish lineoff Les Sables d’Olonne on the French Atlantic coast, off the Vendée region,at
23:44:30hrs local time France (21:44:30hrs UTC) on a beautiful mellow early summernight. His elapsed time for the course is 10d 03h 44min 30s since leaving the start line –set some 90 miles offshore of New York – on Wednesday 29th May.
Between last Sunday and Monday Germany’s Boris Herrmann (Malizia Seaexplorer) andwinner Dalin were the only two solo skippers to break through a problematic low pressuretrough. As soon as they emerged into the brisk southerly breezes on the other side theybuilt a lead which simply grew and grew whilst all their rivals were left languishing in themixed up air, unable to pass the weather hurdle which was effectively moving east with them.

New York-Vendee Transat June 06. Sam Goodchild Dismasted, General Report, Pip, Sam and Boris North
The battle for the podium will be close with just 20 miles between second placedThomas Ruyant (VULNERABLE) and Sébastien Simon (Groupe Dubreuil), the ‘usualsuspects’ in the match including Sam Goodchild (VULNERABLE) who has just reported that he has been dismasted. They are all into the building winds on the north west side of asmall active depression.
Eric Bellion is top of the daggerboard boats on his new David Raison designed StandAs One. He still has about 23 miles on Kiwi Conrad Colman (Imagine MS Amlin). And just as the battle for the places of honour is just as tight and exciting, bodingwell for the Vendée Globe. Canadian Scott Shawyer on his first solo IMOCA oceanrace is proving his competitive drive in 16
th
.
Finally shaking off some of the accumulated fatigue caused by a late, difficultdelivery to the USA which saw him only on land in America for 36 hours before heturned back solo, Colman said today,
“I struggled to get my head in the game and see much joy in what I was doing butsubsequently life has got a lot better and I have gotten some sleep and back intothe match, it is all to play for and that is exciting and stimulating.”
He recalled, “
It feel good to have scrambled my way back into the leading group ofdaggerboard boats, I have put some good miles on the likes of Scott Shawyer forexample. A couple of days ago we were neck and neck, side by side and he is now73 miles behind and I have been able to get in front of James on Gentoo, he hasjust passed a couple of miles behind me after having had a couple of hundred mileslead on me and to be in the fight with Violette who is at the front of this group. Soafter having had a late delivery after first being held up by a late delivery from asupplier and then being held up more in unfortunate winds, it is testament to thefact we have turned this boat into a reliable and adaptable machine which is able toperform in all kinds of conditions is satisfying considering how much work we havedone in the last couple of years.”

Perfect weather conditions, and Sardinia at its best, marked the first day on the water at the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta, an event organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda with the support of Title Sponsor Giorgio Armani. Nauta 100, Morgana, leads after day one. It was a marvellous start for participants in the Southern Wind Rendezvous.
This is your weekly global sailing highlights show, the World on Water, June 07, 2024.
It was the sort of conditions that make racing sailors salivate: 18 knots true with 24 knots gusts, blue skies, temperate airs, a moderate chop for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli making it a stop/start kind of day with technical issues on the boat as the top end conditions bit. So fine-tuned are the A C 75's that any tiny component that isn’t absolutely 100% can mean the end of your day. Just like Formula 1, it’s either all-on or all off.Jimmy is showing his "True Aussie Heritage" as he answers the interviewers questions.
Boris Herrmann's motto for the 2024 New York to Vondee Transat was Go Big or Go Home!
Boris said 'it's super hard to make this kind of decision when you're alone!'.
Here is an explanation for all the people glued to the tracker and wondering why Boris is going so far North!
Also out in the top range wind conditions in Barcelona with Luna Rossa was the American Challenger, American Magic Patriot. They also had their share of hydraulics problems but all in all they reported that the new boat was much lighter than their previous boat. They are very happy with where they sit.
Beers, showers and flat beds! After almost four weeks at sea in the Clipper Race there was some very happy faces to be docking alongside in Flamenco Island Marina. Now, it's to get ready to transit the Panama Canal, and into the last section of their round the world race.
Water and land - stage and regatta course: that is the Kiel Week. It is a shared journey of discovery with unique encounters and surprises. Let yourself drift and experience your very own Kiel Week moment.

New York Vendee Transat June 03.24 Report. Nico's Broken His Bowsprit AGAIN! Charlie Leads Boris
Subscribe to this channel for all of our Vende and Americas Cup Uploads.
While they were supposed to cross it yesterday at the end of the day, the leaders of the second edition of the New York Vondée only crossed the other side of the low pressure trough planted on their route last Sunday morning. This elongated area of relatively low atmospheric pressure has clearly given them a hard time, and it continues to do so, with the rest of the fleet. The models are always completely off the mark. In this context, sailors must resort to the basics. Navigate the old-fashioned way, with your eyes riveted towards the clouds, but also multiply the maneuvers, and remain fully concentrated on their settings. While it’s certainly not easy, it’s also not ideal for quickly gaining miles in the right direction. The proof is that as they finish their fourth day at sea, they have barely completed a third of the journey!
On the tracker, leading is Charlie Dalin, followed closely by Boris Herrmann and bough-sprit missing Nicolas Lunven.

Emirates Team New Zealand have decided to freight their AC75 Defender by ship and it has been loaded onto the "Baltic Spring" and it is on its way to Spain via the Panama Canal and the Atlaantic Ocean and the Med Sea. All going well, it should take a month or so.
This is your weekly Global Sailing Highlights show, the World on Water, May 31, 2024.
One of the remarkable factors that courses through the entire Emirates Team New Zealand squad, from the very top to the bottom is honesty, and it's a remarkable, refreshing factor in the Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup. Today out training on the ‘Back Paddock’ in Auckland, the Youth Team who were one-boat training on their AC40 over-cooked it on the exit of a gybe, lost the rudder and then had what can only be described as an epic pitch-pole and resultant capsize. We tend to think that this will happen again as the Women and Youth Teams get into competition.
The 2024 New York to Vendee Trans Atlantic Race for IMOCA 60 foot yachts who are qualifying for entry into Novembers Vendee Globe Round the World race started May 29 offshore from the Big Apple.
First report in from the boats was German Boris Herrmann on Melizia and then Brits Pip Hare on Medallia and Sam Davies saling Initiatives Coeur. The fleet are headed for the Gulf Stream current then home to their bases in the Vendee in France.
The only AC75 out in Barcelona on May 24, Alinghi Red Bull Racing, who cut a solitary but stunning form and figure against the beautiful downtown scenery, truly one of the greatest places in the world to host a regatta, as the hard-driving Swiss pushed on relentlessly to eke the technique, and build up the marginal gains.
We go to lake Garda and the Waszp Bellano, 26th May 2024, Yellow Fleet.
Experienced an unforgettable day in Bellano, where the Waszp fleet put on a show with a breathtaking regatta! From precise turns to moments of pure speed, the skippers demonstrated talent and passion.
From what looked to be quite an unpromising weather forecast, wind-wise, last Saturday in Barcelona actually turned out to be one of the most entertaining and enlightening training sessions that we’ve seen so far in the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup. Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli and NYYC American Magic were the only two teams on the water and with everyone fighting to sail in the same stretch of water, the inevitable happened and we got a first sight of boats lining up loosely against each other, the rules precluding actual two-boat racing. Note how Jimmy reacted to being told this.

With 6 months to go before the start of its 10th edition, the Vondée Globe is making an American aside!
The last qualifying and selection race for the solo round the world race, the New York Vendée Los Sabb d'lonne, will set sail on 29 May, at 20 hundred French time. The Vondée Globe is a single-handed, non-stop, non-assisted round-the-world sailing race, that takes place every four years. It is contested on Imoca foiling and non-foiling monohulls, which are 18 metres or 60 feet long.
This is your weekly Global Sailing Highlights show, the World on Water, May 24, 2024.
We have waited a while to see it, but Barcelona delivered a solid 17 to 20 knots of south-south-westerly breeze, and gave New York Yacht Club, American Magic, the only team out on the water on Monday, the chance to open the throttles and show the outrageous performance of a new-gen A C 75, in all its glory. It was almost impossible for the recon teams to keep up, such were the speeds being generated, but what a fabulous spectacle, and one that every fan will want to see come the racing for the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup.
In this video Pip Hare of Medallia, shares an insight into life onboard an Imoca at night, and the equipment used to help her navigate during the race.
Nearly 400 miles away from the first Finish Line, and Ha Long Bay Viet Nam, has now entered the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone. With the lead yachts being around 50 nautical miles from this Finish Gate, the tension, along with the ever-rising temperature, will be hotting up as teams battle it out for the podium.
Race 11, offers a unique challenge on the circuit, as there are six Mandatory Finish Gates in place along the race route in the run up to the Finish Line. These are in place due to the fickle and ever-lightening breeze as the fleet sails south into the doldrums. Any of the Mandatory Finish Gates could have been selected as a finish line by the Race Committee. This is so the fleet doesn’t end up getting stuck in zero wind and can make its transit through the Panama Canal.
Max Maeder (Singapore) and Lauriane Nolot (France) successfully defended their titles at the 2024 Formula Kite World Championships on May 14 to 19 in Hyères, France. The top North Americans came from the USA with Daniela Moroz in 7th and Markus Edegran in 11th. Also, Emily Bugeja qualified to be nominated on Canada’s Paris 2024 Olympic Games sailing team, after her 40th place finish.
The first slalom champions of the year have been crowned at the PWA Youth and Junior World Cup in Aruba, the opening event of the Youth Slalom World Tour, which will also see contests in Bonaire and Turkey, with other possible events still to be announced.
With all fleets racing together this week, athletes of all ages battled it out in both fin and foil divisions.
Bobbi-Lynn De Jong (Starboard / NeilPryde) was the standout in the girls division taking the victory in both the fin and foil rankings overall and will lead the U 17 rankings heading into her home spot next week in Bonaire. Whilst Brendan Lorho (FMX Racing / Point-7) & Benedikt Emser (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails / PATRIK Foils) took home the win in the fin and foil boy's fleets respectively.
The WingFoil Racing World Cup Turkiye began on May 22, although a lack of wind prevented the first race from going ahead. Instead the riders put their competitive instincts into an evening competition on Audi e-foilers, electric-powered foiling boards that fly above the surface at up to 30 knots. World on Water May17 24 Class40 Finish, Luna Rossa at Speed, 44 Cup, 470 Euros, Clarisse, Holcim
Winning the Class 40 Transat CIC, Ambrogio Beccaria, said that it was an incredibly close race, with lots of twists and turns.
It was not often you win two Transatlantic races in six months, and this is the first solo race that I have won on the boat, that is very, very important to me. And this is one of the best races I have ever done. A lot of the time it is about pain and suffering, this time I was very, very aware all the time of what I was doing, and everything worked very, very well.
This is your weekly global sailing highlights show, the World on Water, May 17, 2024.
In Cagliari it was a slightly more overcast affair, with a dynamic weather system over the Bay of Angels, and the constant threat of rain showers. A shifting wind that gradually built to 12 knots but averaged 10 knots, was more than enough for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli to rifle through their standard training drills over a near four-hour afternoon training session, but the introduction of marks, and a virtual starting box, indicated a whole new shift in direction.
The Shore Crew in the Azores now have looked at Clarisse's IMOCA, and this is what they found.
We also have reports from her after resuming racing, and further in her race to be in New York by the race start, for the returm Transat. She is becalmed in a depression, and not going anywhere. Still she has time to meet her deadline.
Torbjörn Törnqvist’s, Artemis Racing, demonstrated herself to be categorically back on form, after winning five races out of nine at the 44Cup Baiona. The second event of the 2024 44Cup concluded in the Galician port, where it has been hosted by the Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona.
This class is nown as "boats in a Box" as they can be broken down and stuffed into a container and delivered to their next venue.

2024, 470 World Champions, Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman of Spain, Claimone more title and are crowned European Champions.
The 470 European Championship, held in Yacht Club de Cannes, in France, was concluded with a medal race on Sunday May 12.
Following their success as in Palma, two months ago, were they claimed the 470 Mixed World title, Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman from Spain have been crowned European Champions in Cannes.
Nicolas Lunven, on Holcim-PRB, came in 14th in the IMOCA class of The Transat CIC, and this is before the jury.
Certainly expected to be one of the key contenders for a top five on this race, Nico Lunven’s challenge, was compromised severely when he lost the bowsprit of Holcim PRB. Since then he was unable to fly any code sails, and struggled to find speed and dropped places.
Rosalin Kuiper also gives an update on the repairs to the boat in New York.

It was a big day for New York Yacht Club's, American Magic, who called for all-hands on deck at the base super-early this week, ahead of rolling out their new AC75 at 5 45 a m, with the first set of slightly asymmetric race foils, rudder, and rig, all in place and revealing an interesting deck layout putting the helms and trimmers side by side, and well forward. The Transit CIC started on Sunday from Lorient and is headed to New York. Of the 48 sailors who took the start, 33 are competing in the Imoca class, 13 in the Class 40 and 2 in the vintage class.
First out, at around 153 0 hours on Monday, the skipper of Sharral, informed his shore crew of damage to his J 2 forestay. ‘There was a big boom,’ explains Jérémie, and Although ‘the mast vibrated’, it was not damaged.
He headed back to Lorient to carry out repairs as quickly as possible. He will then set off again, with a reduced crew, to make New York to be at the start of New York-Vondée on 29 May. Other major damage is to Holcim P-R-B whose Bough sprit has broken. He is continuing racing. Clarisse Cremer, (L'Occitane en Provence), undertook a routine check of the boat, and has reported to the Race Organisation an issue with the J3 bulkhead. Clarisse is safe and uninjured, and is headed for repairs in the Azores. The bough-sprit of the Class 40, Bleu Blanc Planète Location, has broken in two. After recovering the sail and getting the boat to safety, the skipper is off to a port in Brittany to study the next step. Sébastien Marsset, (Foussier), retired for medical reasons.
There are close duels at the top of both the Imocas and Class40's.

May 2 was a big day for INEOS Britannia as the sailing team who took over the programme after countless hours of detailed, relentless design and technical fit-out, led by Sir Ben Ainslie with a midday dock-out, and a superb, if shifting, breeze, in the range of 8-13 knots.
New boats, new faces, and an accumulation of pent-up energy and excitement will have to stay on hold as the winds refused to blow today on the Bay of Palma for what should have been the first day of racing for the 2024 52 SUPER SERIES season, at 52 SUPER SERIES Palma-Vela Sailing Week.
Rain clouds eliminated any chance of a sailing breeze and the fleet remained poised at the Real Club Náutico de Palma’s race dock for the day, but by mid-afternoon it was clear there was no chance of equable racing.
Six of the eight men's and women's dinghy Olympic places on offer at the Last Chance Regatta were claimed by sailors on a rain-soaked final day of qualification.

English Harbour Rum Race Day kicked off racing action on Sunday 28 April 2024 at the 55th edition of Antigua Sailing Week. The international fleet got their first taste of racing in tropical heat on the stunning South Coast of Antigua. An easterly breeze of 7-13 knots and flat sea state provided sweet conditions, but the competition was full of spice.

But not before you have a damage problem. This is the calm before his storm. A broken bough-sprit has not taken him from the race. He will fix it in New York.

The Sportsmanship Award went to the Bermuda 40 Custom Yawl Lioness, owned, and skippered by Sheldon Haynie racing in Pursuit Spinnaker C.
We all saw the terrible cloud-burst weather during the naming ceremony of Emirates Team New Zealand's new A C 75 so it was not difficult to know that sailing in that weather was out of the question. Not fo the beautiful Auckland classic yacht Ariki. It was out on the harbour and so was our shooter Mike Millett from Air-Flow New Zealand who captured the yacht at full sail.
Ariki is a racing yacht which was built in Auckland New Zealand in 1904 by Logan Brothers. She had a distinguished career as a racing and cruising yacht. From the time of her launch in Oct 1904 she dominated first class Auckland yacht racing until the appearance of the yacht Ranger in 1938. She has the sail number A3.
After the disappointment of the session on Saturday being curtailed by a small technical issue, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli docked-out their achingly beautiful AC75 into near-perfect conditions for a Sunday commissioning sail of the highest order. Bristling with power, poise and real stability despite the legacy appendages, Jimmy Spithill and Francesco Bruni (later swapped out with Marco Gradoni), ramped up the intensity and began releasing the boat’s potential.
The Transat CIC is set to bring solo ocean racing’s biggest, most modern IMOCA and Class40 fleet to the very heart of New York City.
The city of New York is inextricably linked to the long history of solo ocean racing. Some years before anyone had really worked up the idea of racing solo around the globe, in 1957 English yachtsman Colonel Herbert ‘Blondie’ Hasler proposed a solo race across the Atlantic from Plymouth to New York

Sailing Highlights World on Water April 19.24 ETNZ, American Magic, Pen Duic6, Maiden, Olympic Flame
The America's Cup, Emirates Team New Zealand, wheeled their new 75-foot defender out of the shed and immediately dropped it into the water and went sailing. The crowd Cheered , and challengers were astounded. They, in turn, showed their boats and went back into lockdown.
Round one to the defenders.
This says, we are ready, are you?
It's going to be interesting.
This is your weekly Global Sailing Highlights show, the World on Water, April 19, 2024.
High on a hill in Greece, they conducted a well-practiced ceremony to light a flame from the rays of the sun. At the time of our editing, it is 100 days until the Paris Olympics. It didn't go without a hitch but it did combust and the torch is on its way.
They couldn’t resist it and who could blame them? Emirates Team New Zealand took to the Hauraki Gulf on Sunday in their brand new AC75 with the sailors itching to get going and push fast through the commissioning phase. No nonsense as always, the day was efficient, despite the team leaving the mainsail inflatable bag that sits between the mainsail skins, back on the dock and having to send a chase boat in to get it.
Dan Bernasconi, Chief Technical Officer: Emirates Team New Zealand is interviewed.
The French legend Pen Duick VI FR (14), skippered by the indomitable Marie Tabarly, has taken provisional line honors in the final leg of the inaugural McIntyre Ocean Globe Race, – and in the days ahead could potentially win the O G R Overall! At 22 52 UTC, on 11th April the stunning black-hulled, 73-foot Bermudan Ketch, revered amongst sailors around the world, sailed gracefully across the Royal Yacht Squadron finish line in Cowes UK. With Marie at the helm, leading her loyal troops, it was fitting that this yacht, sailed by her father Éric Tabarly in the 1973 Whitbread Round-the-World Race, should take line honours in such style. With almost a two-day lead on nearest rival L’Esprit d’équipe for line honours, Pen Duick VI’s dominance on the final leg was unquestionable.
The other Corinthian sailing round-the-world race, the British Clipper race is currently transiting the North Pacific. It is day 18 of the current leg and the crew on, Dare To Win are feeling tired. The team has entered the low-pressure system coming off of Hawaii. In this report, we hear more about life on board from the crew on Dare To Lead.
With new boat launches, all around them, NYYC American Magic stayed true to their programme on Tuesday, and executed an intense afternoon of two-boat race practice in perfect ‘champagne’ conditions off a sunny and increasingly warm Barcelona. Team Boss Terry Hutchison explains to the official interviewer. We have subtitles.
If boys can do it, so can girls. This has been proven as the all-female crew brought the classic yacht Maiden across the Mcintyre Ocean Globe Race in Cowes. Whitbread history was reinvented in Cowes, UK as Maiden UK crossed the finish line of the McIntyre Ocean Globe Race in a suitable style. The sun came out, Abba tunes blared, and the beers and food were shared around the excited crowds as a carnival festival took over the windy Yacht Haven marina.

There was a dramatic conclusion to the women's kiting event where twice, the overall leader Daniela Moroz of the United States, started a fraction too soon and falsely started, picking up two costly UFD disqualifications. This left the door open to Australian kite boarder Brianna Whitehead to win the kites and the trophy for overall winner.Winner of the women's Formula kite event, Brianna Whitehead, held her nerve under pressure, as USA's outstanding favorite Daniela Moroz, false started twice, to become the only the second Australian winner ever of the overall top award, as the 53-trophy Princess Sophia Malluca, by Ibro star, Olympic regatta, concluded on the Bay of Parma.

The popular sailing podcast, Sailing Illustrated, is always covering the latest in sailing and this week had the mail on the New York Yacht Club's Big Americas Cup Yacht and its delivery from the US to Barcelona via the big Ukrainian heavy-lift Antonov cargo plane. The boats are assembling in Barcelona as Ineos Britannia's AB3 boat is also in transit down the A35 from Carrington Boats, not quite the entry as made by the Americans.
Tom Ehrman of Sailing Illustrated reports.
It may have been April Fool's Day, but the weather in Palma de Mallorca was no joke. Sailors faced steep, mountainous waves and 20 to 30 knot winds, for the opening day of the Trofeo Princesa Sofia, keeping the IQ Foil Men and Women, 49er, 49er FX, and NACRA 17 fleets from racing.
The Women's Kite, 470, and Ilka 6 and 7 fleets, were able to get racers off despite a challenging day.
The North Pacific Ocean. Big One.
The ultimate test of physical and mental fortitude, our intrepid race crew, are set to face. On previous editions, teams have encountered mountainous waves as tall as 14 metres, in sea states classed as phenomenal. Hurricane-force winds, freezing temperatures, and a true sense of remoteness, are all a possibility, but that is what the teams train for.
Here's a look into the Italian Luna Rossa Prado Pirelli Americas Cup team. What I really like is the compttion, comparing yourself with others and trying to bring out your best.
Ruggero Tida is channeling precision, decisiveness, and a quest for the extreme, into conquering the 2024 Americas Cup. The Royal Ocean Racing Club has big plans to promote youth sailing in 2024.
Over the years, through the generosity of RORC members, the Griffin Fund has assisted in providing race boats and experienced sailors, to improve young sailors' understanding of offshore racing.
An exciting evolution has started with quite a bang for 2024. Nearly 300 sailors, 18-30 years of age, contacted the RORC with 200 attending a Griffin Zoom webinar held by the Griffin project team.
Few yachts are more iconic than Pen Duick 6, with its long and colourful history with the Whitbread Round-the-World Race.
(3:09) Designed specifically for the 1973 Whitbread, and sailed by the legendary Eric Tabarly, Pen Duick 6 had to be built in record time to make it to the starting line. She was an unofficial entrant in the 1977-78 Whitbread, and in 1981-82 as Euromuck. Marie Tabarly is now owner and skipper of the 73ft, 33m Pen Duick 6, the flagship of the Ellermann Terra project, raising public awareness of major environmental and social issues.
