Teaching new detectives how to properly and thoroughly investigate crimes

Most police departments across the country do an extensive job preparing officers for patrol; however, they tend to place new detectives in their new assignments with very little preparation. Departments typically depend on “on-the-job” training for the new detective, which unfortunately takes too long to achieve comfort in handling a criminal investigation.
