The Day The Earth Caught Fire (Movie Trailer HD) 1961 Remastered
Classic ClipsThis movie trailer has been remastered by the editor of Classic Clips. The Day the Earth Caught Fire is a 1961 British science-fiction disaster film directed by Val Guest and starring Edward Judd, Leo McKern, and Janet Munro. It is one of the classic apocalyptic films of its era. The film opened at the Odeon Marble Arch in London on 23 November 1961. In August 2014, a restored version was screened at the British Museum's summer open-air cinema. Peter Stenning (Edward Judd) is a depressed British reporter who gets by with the help of his friend, veteran journalist Bill Maguire (Leo McKern). Along with weather forecaster Jeannie Craig (Janet Munro), Peter and Bill discover that simultaneous U.S. and Russian nuclear explosions have drastically altered the earth's rotation. Fires and earthquakes ravage cities all over the world, and chaos and sickness descend upon the frightened survivors as they try to put the planet back on its axis. The film, which was partly made on location in London and Brighton, used matte painting to create images of abandoned cities and desolate landscapes. The production also featured the real Daily Express, even using the paper's own headquarters, the Daily Express Building in Fleet Street and featuring Arthur Christiansen as the Express editor, a job he had held in real life. The Night the World Exploded (Movie Trailer) 1957
Classic ClipsThe Night the World Exploded is a 1957 science fiction disaster film. The film was written by Jack Natteford and Luci Ward and directed by Fred F. Sears with Sam Katzman the producer. Both Katzman and Sears were known for their B films. The film was released on a double bill with The Giant Claw. Earthquake experts (Kathryn Grant, William Leslie, Tristram Coffin) find trouble at the earth's core, something shaky called E-112. A Computer then projects the world could explode within 28 days. While "The Night the World Exploded" is a very low-budget film with no-name actors, it is enjoyable. It also manages to make a ridiculous plot seem plausible--and that is no small feat. The film begins with a seismologist creating a new machine that would help them predict earthquakes.
