In 1958, Aldous Huxley appeared on "The Mike Wallace Interview" with journalist Mike Wallace. Huxley, a social critic and author of "Brave New World," discussed threats to freedom and the use of hallucinogenic drugs in his book "The Doors of Perception." Huxley predicted that technological devices could accelerate the process of going away from freedom and imposing control. In his book, "Brave New World," Huxley postulated a substance called "soma" that could profoundly change mental states without harm. Huxley also predicted that technodictators would need the consent of the ruled to preserve power indefinitely.
