Desperation is a story about several people who, while traveling along the desolated Highway 50 in Nevada, get abducted by Collie Entragian, the deputy of the fictional mining town of Desperation.

"The Call of Cthulhu" is a short story by American writer H. P. Lovecraft. Written in the summer of 1926. The first seed of the story's first chapter The Horror in Clay came from one of Lovecraft's own dreams he had in 1919. The deceased narrator, Francis Wayland Thurston, recounts his discovery of notes left behind by his grand-uncle, Brown University linguistic professor George Gammell Angell, after his death in the winter of 1926–27. Among the notes is a small bas-relief sculpture of a scaly creature which yields "simultaneous pictures of an octopus, a dragon, and a human caricature."

“The Hound” is a short story by H.P. Lovecraft, written in September 1922 and first published in February 1924 in Weird Tales. The story revolves around two English gentlemen, St. John and the unnamed narrator, who engage in grave-robbing and collecting macabre artifacts. After stealing an ancient amulet from a Dutch grave, they unleash a supernatural horror, a winged hound or sphinx with a canine face, which haunts them and ultimately leads to St. John’s gruesome death.

The Damnation Game is a 1985 horror novel by English writer Clive Barker. It was Barker's first novel. Marty Strauss is a gambling addict recently released from prison. He is hired as the personal bodyguard of Joseph Whitehead, one of the wealthiest men in the world.

"The Shunned House" is a horror fiction novelette by American author H. P. Lovecraft, written on October 16–19, 1924. It was first published in the October 1937 issue of Weird Tales.

"The Lurking Fear" is a horror short story by American writer H. P. Lovecraft. Written in November 1922, it was first published in the January through April 1923 issues of Home Brew.
