WTD First Rank Hand Combinations. These examples are all from the "Stationary Set", which is the basic building block set. The set starts from a linear (bladed) stance and opens into a squared position (frontal or Kickstance) , when distance is presumed to be closed. After the stationary set, a student graduates into the Advancing Set, Retreating Set, Kickstance Set, Pivot Set, Drift, Set, Circle Set, and Orbit Set as far as movement and footwaork is concerned. Other drills that use these combinations are 1) Kick Set (where we add kicks before or after (or both) , 2) Excercise Set (where we add various maneuvers (i.e. Sprawling, Shooting, Rolling, etc.) to the drills, and 3) Ring Set ( where the Rattan Ring (Jook Wan) is added for further technique development).
