Burnham begins this book by observing that the West is in a state of territorial decline; he argues that liberalism can help us understand how this decline occurred. Throughout the work, he gives a comprehensive analysis of liberalism. I focus on only one aspect of this analysis; namely, liberalism's attitude towards the nation. I argue that liberalism's antipathy towards the nation (and by extension, Western civilisation) explains its decline.

Antonio Gramsci and what most now describe as the quackery of Sigmund Freud were also big influences on the institute’s development. - The school’s thinking was that something else of significance needed to replace the working class as the vanguard of the previously failed global Marxist revolution so that a global revolution could be achieved.
