It is there that I began to practice skills and still do to this day. It is my little "island in the oasis". The #basecamp has served me well over the years and it was time to replace the rotting walls and supports. My objective was to make it a free standing #bushcraftshelter as much as possible. I show you footage of the previous weeks of the work I did on the structure and then we party in the luxury of the newly renovated camp that is known as the "Pallet Palace". #spicynoodles #ramen #flintandsteel Today we are hanging out at the base camp. I always enjoy the times spent at my little oasis in the woods behind my house. I love this shelter, even more so after renovating it. The link to that video: This time the fire starting method of choice is flint and steel, using the Esee Firesteel. For lunch I have a bowl of spicy Ramen noodles called Fire Wok. I love spicy food and couldn't wait to see what kind of heat it brought. The noodles had a good flavor and definitely ramped up the heat but was nothing that I couldn't handle. I think it's fun to sweat and cry it out hahaha. The heat opens up all you senses and gets your motor running. SO FUN! This is the final video of 2020 on BURNWOOD BUSHCRAFT. Originally published on YouTube on May 19, 2021 The #basecamp. Where it all began. It started out as a place to hang out, enjoy a fire and relax. It morphed into a YouTube #bushcraft channel that has taken me on quite a journey spawning 110 videos with many of those videos filmed right here at the Pallet Palace, aptly named by HIKE'N DEEP https://youtube.com/c/HIKENDEEP. Tonight I have the hammock set up behind the shelter, a few cold beers and a can of Spaghetti O's. Sounds very simple but that's how I like it. I've enjoyed #camping here over the years but, now, times are changing. New paths are ahead and new adventures are on the horizon and I am excited with anticipation for those new adventures to come. All things must come to an end. The base camp series here at this shelter is coming to a close. We will wrap up this base camp with 5 special editions in the coming months before saying goodbye. I do hope to be able to return to this shelter occasionally as long as it stands providing that I am allowed. This camp will live in my heart forever. I will never forget it. BURNWOOD BUSHCRAFT 4.6 SPECIAL EDITION. It is #CanteenCupTueaday! We are up before dawn at the base camp and the morning is cool and beautiful. Today we cook up corned beef hash and eggs for breakfast in my Valtcan titanium canteen cup. My #MessKit also has a smaller cup in which we brew up some cowboy coffee. This was simple #CampCooking and it turned out pretty good. I would have had 2 eggs but accidentally sat on one of them haha. Outdoor cooking is always fun and it's always a must to have Texas Pete hot sauce on hand. This time I try a little Texas Pete Dust dry seasoning in the mix. It added a nice and flavorful kick to the dish. BURNWOOD BUSHCRAFT 4.8 - Fire It Up Friday (Special Edition) There is only one episode left of this series here at this base camp, EVER. Coming soon! We are at the basecamp where I practice #bushcraft and camp. Today we crank up the heat in this special #fireitupfriday. I process a little bit of #fatwood from a pine log that I found a while back and it is loaded with risen and sticky goodness. This is the largest amount of fatwood that I have ever found. I've had it for quite a while and I hope it lasts for years. I absolutely love this shelter at this little camp. It is where I started my journey into learning more about the outdoors and bushcraft. The camp evolved over the years with a renovation making it even more special. It will be a sad day when I can no longer come back here. We are moving on to a new base camp that is yet to exist.
