The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Originally recorded on 10/11/2021 Here we are! Back at it again! And we are not going anywhere for a long, long time! Initially release in Japan on November 21, 1991; North America on April 13, 1992, and Europe on September 24, 1992. We are finishing a Link to the Past, the third game released for the Legend of Zelda series! It has been about 12 years since I lasted played it. A lot happened since then. College, relationships, careers... life. Life happened. I remember liking this. Quite a bit actually. So let's see how it handles! Here, we play the opening segment up until the first dungeon in the game.

Originally recorded on 10/30/2021 It's been super hectic with life recently. But that is what makes life great! I need the break though, so streaming it is! Here we tear through the Eastern Palace and explore the Overworld for a bit. Let's see if we can set up success in later hours.

Here we make short work of the Desert Palace and explore more of the Overworld, which includes the Lost Woods, Zora's Waterfall, and Death Mountain. - Note as of posting this video - I can't believe how much my life change since starting this game on stream to when I finished. A complete night and day difference.

Again, that's why there is such long gaps of time in the between the "Originally streaming/recording" dates. I haven't looked at Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix in a while, I wonder how those dates look. Anyways... In this episode, we see a good spike in difficult as we go through the Dark Palace and get ourselves ready for the Swamp Palace

Originally streamed on 06/13/2022 One of my favorite things about Zelda, and video games in general, is just how a world just unfolds for you. Little by little. Yeah, some games let you go wild at the start but it does slowly reveal its secrets to you. I feel like that happens here as we go back and forth from the Light World and Dark World and exploring the parts that were inaccessible to us before.

Originally streamed on 06/20/2022 What an interesting design choice! And it's so early in the series too. "Hey, let's have players leave and enter the dungeon at different points and have them go through the overworld." "Yeah! Good idea!" There's one particular "dungeon" in The Wind Waker I can't wait to experience again, but that is FIVE games away at this point. Plus the Kingdom Hearts series on top of that? Hoo boy, that'll be a while before we get there! Here, we leave and enter and leave and enter and leaver and enter the Skull Woods dungeon. Plus, we get to the start of the next dungeon, Gargoyle's Domain. Man, I am really having a good time here. At one point, this was Nintendo's most ambitious game and I can see how this would have melted minds back in 1991.

Originally streamed on 06/23/2022 Really starting to feel that difficulty spike! You have to be perfect navigating these dungeons now. There is no room for error. The wrong move could cost you at least a minute of back tracking and that's no good. In this hour, we get through Gargoyle's Domain and get ourselves ready for the Ice Palace.

Originally streamed on 06/23/2022 We may have a front runner for worst dungeon design! That's why this episode is too long! Come to think of it. I didn't care much for the Great Palace in Zelda II either. For the sake of confusion, I'll refer to all of them as just dungeons from now on. The Great Palace was just too long and too much of a gaunlet to get through just to get rocked by Thunderbird and Dark Link at the end. The problem here, was I didn't care for just how confusing this was. And you need to flawless execute a plan going through this dungeon, one slipup and BAM! You have to waste 5 minutes backtracking.
