The Phenomenal Bigfoot
Temple of the Living FireDear unknown friend: Happy Holidays! Today we will once again explore something different than our first several episodes. In 1958, Carl Jung wrote his essay on Flying Saucers, and while he seemed convinced of their reality as physical phenomena he also considered them from a psychological and archetypal standpoint. The common shape of these objects being circular suggests the archetype of the Self - wholeness and perfection. He even mentioned the possibility of a Savior archetype being projected upon these objects, which is clearly the case in many New Age circles today. However, UFOs would appear to be far from merely a modern phenomenon. All the way back to ancient Sumeria, Alexander the Great, and the Renaissance we find reports and depictions of strange objects in the sky. In the Basel Broadsheet from 1566, it was reported that on August seventh of that year, strange objects appeared in the sky that at times, like today, were reported as moving at incredible speeds. Jung explored the issue from many angles. Today, one of our producers, Brother Amplius, will explore the phenomenon of Sasquatch in this same spirit. Please enjoy the show! ______________________ The Wendigo, an excerpt from “Memories of the American Frontier” by Theodore Roosevelt. “Frontiersmen are not, as a rule, apt to be very superstitious. They lead lives too hard and practical and have too little imagination in things spiritual and supernatural. I have heard but few ghost stories while living on the frontier, and these few were of a perfectly commonplace and conventional type. But I once listened to a goblin story which rather impressed me. It was told by a grizzled, weather-beaten old mountain hunter, named Bauman, who was born and had passed all his life on the frontier. He must have believed what he said, for he could hardly repress a shudder at certain points of the tale; but he was of German ancestry, and in childhood had doubtless been saturated with all kinds of ghost and goblin lore, so that many fearsome superstitions were latent in his mind; besides, he knew well the stories told by the Indian medicine men in their winter camps, of the snow-walkers, and the spectres, and the formless evil beings that haunt the forest depths, and dog and waylay the lonely wanderer who after nightfall passes through the regions where they lurk.... When the event occurred, Bauman was still a young man, and was trapping with a partner among the mountains dividing the forks of Salmon from the head of Wisdom River. Not having had much luck he and his partner determined to go up into a particularly wild and lonely pass through which ran a small stream said to contain many beaver. The pass had an evil reputation, because the year before a solitary hunter who had wandered into it was there slain, seemingly by a wild beast, the half-eaten remains being afterwards found by some mining prospectors who had passed his camp only the night before. The memory of this event, however, weighed very lightly with the two trappers, who were as adventurous and hardy as others of their kind. They took their two lean mountain Ponies to the foot of the pass, where they left them in an open Beaver meadow, the rocky timber clad ground being from thence onwards impracticable for Horses. They then struck out on foot through the vast, gloomy forest, and in about four hours, reached a little open glade where they concluded to camp, as signs of game were plenty. There was still an hour or two of daylight left; and after building brush lean-to and throwing down and opening their packs, they started up stream. The country was very dense and hard to travel through, as there was much down timber, although here and there the sombre woodland was broken by small glades of mountain grass. At dusk, they again reached camp. The glade in which it was pitched was not many yards wide, the tall, close-set pines and firs rising round it like a wall. On one side, was a little stream, beyond which rose the steep mountain-slopes, covered with the unbroken growth of the evergreen forest. They were surprised to find that during their short absence, something, apparently a Bear, had visited camp, and had rummaged about among their things, scattering the contents of their packs, and in sheer wantonness destroying their lean-to. The footprints of the beast were quite plain but at first, they paid no particular heed to them, busying themselves with rebuilding the lean-to, laying out their beds and stores, and lighting the fire..." #bigfoot #sasquatch #thewendigo #carljung #teddyroosevelt #paranormal #cryptozoology #creepy #creepystories #bigfootwitness #bigfooters65 views 2 comments -
Mar Shimun and the Snake People
Temple of the Living FireDear Unknown Friend, on occasion we will present to our audience episodes that may seem slightly off-brand. These will feature true to life stories of paranormal, occult, and metaphysical phenomena. For today’s episode we wish to share a segment from an upcoming book, originally written in the 1980s, by Richard Porter Adair, called “The Philosophers of the Living Fire: The Dance of Life”. It is an autobiographical story, with names changed for reasons only known to the author. The story in overview concerns a 30-year old Robin Gordon who, in the fall of 1950, had recently arrived in New York City, seeking a new life far away from the influences of his upbringing and familial ties. He travels there also for the sake of a reunion with a friend and mentor he had met a few years earlier while living in Chicago. This “august teacher,” Mar Shimun, also known as John More-Moreno, is an Eastern Orthodox Bishop and also a member of an occult brotherhood, known as the Philosophers of the Living Fire. He is a man of diminutive stature, yet charismatic, and of African descent, having been born on the Island of Granada. Mar Shimun takes Robin under his wing as a student, for he had seen a certain quality in Robin that he endeavored to help nurture. The pair subsequently have meetings every Monday night, and during these meetings Mar Shimun teaches Robin many secrets of occultism, esotericism, and shares, at times, stories from his own youth, and his own initiation into the occult path, that were designed to help Robin understand the practical reality of occultism, as well as theoretical principles. The following excerpt is one such example. This story perhaps conveys more than anything the true and significant dangers of occult practice, when it is caught up in what can be called arbitrary or personal magic, as opposed to sacred magic. Which means to say, magic of a lower plane, as opposed to the aims of Theurgy. In this segment of the story, the pair had just recently reunited, and Robin had purchased some of the books recommended by Mar Shimun, and they are now engaged in the first of many Monday night meetings. In this episode, Mar Shimun recounts a story that took place in the 1920s. Please enjoy the show. Magus Incognito reads the excerpt: Arriving back at his apartment about eight o’clock, Robin nodded to T.A. across the street, who was busy sweeping the sidewalks. He then welcomed in Mar Shimun, who was punctual and kindly in his manner. “Well, well, well. It is good to see you, young Robin!” exclaimed Mar Shimun. “Truly, Bishop, I am honored. Please make yourself comfortable. I’m just lighting up the hearth fire to make everything cozier. You might take a look at the books I got today. They are on the desktop there.” Mar Shimun strolled over to the desk and perused the purchases. “Very good, Robin. I prepared an outline which I am leaving with you tonight. It will serve as a guide in exactly what you must try to learn from these books. We will go over these subjects repeatedly to test your progress. As to our regular meetings, we will utilize them as a form of lecture, which you should note down after I have left. This will test your powers of retention and attentiveness.” “Sounds good,” replied an excited Robin. Mar Shimun took a seat by the fire and extended his palms towards its glowing warmth. “In order to illustrate certain powerful Forces at work in the universe, true life experiences may be drawn on. Over our next few meetings, I will share some of these experiences. Tonight, I will tell you of one I had during the years I spent in Costa Rica." Robin went to the kitchen, then returned with some ginger tea for his guest and took a seat adjacent to the Bishop. “I’m intrigued, Bishop!” Robin exclaimed with enthusiasm. “Ah, ginger tea, on such a cold night, what a blessing. Thank you, Robin.” He carefully sipped the tea then placed the mug on the table by his chair. “Now, Robin, I have already told you of my physician friend, Armand, who was the one who persuaded me to go to that exotic little country. Well, we went there and rented a tiny two-story house not far from the city square. Here Armand hung out his shingle. It was not long after that our first adventure started. "One afternoon, into the little surgery came a small chap with a case of dysentery. He was the last patient of the day and wanted to talk. After he commenced, Armand called me to the office. I joined him from upstairs, where I had been writing. This is his story…” ------------------------- The novel, "The Philosophers of the Living Fire: The Dance of Life", will be available for purchase soon, and we will make the announcement as soon as possible. ------------------------- #MarShimun #BishopJohnChrysostom #MoreMoreno #BishopGregory #RichardPAdair #snakecane #theSnakePeople #hermeticism #truestory #trueoccultstory #philosophersofthelivingfire #thedanceoflife #templeofthelivingfire45 views 1 comment
