However, his past catches up with him when a former associate reveals his true identity as Phil Morgan, the mastermind behind a $200,000 payroll robbery. The film explores themes of mental health and moral responsibility within the criminal justice system. Backstory Facts: 1. Based on a Radio Series: The movie was adapted from the popular radio series "Crime Doctor," which aired from 1940 to 1947. 2. Sequels: The success of the film led to nine low-budget sequels released between 1943 and 1949, all starring Warner Baxter as the Crime Doctor. Baxter continued his career with the series until he suffered a nervous breakdown and severe arthritis, passing away two years after the final film.
