In this episode, we cover the latest climate anomalies and natural disasters that occurred worldwide over the past week (February 19–25, 2025). Russia Temperature chaos continues to baffle experts. In the Kola Peninsula, above the Arctic Circle, there were no frosts even at night, with daytime temperatures reaching +5°C. Meanwhile, the southern regions faced abnormally cold weather with heavy snowfalls. In Krasnodar, Novorossiysk, and other areas of Kuban, water bodies froze over, forming ice ridges. In Sochi, snow fell not only in the mountains — where snowdrifts reached 3 meters — but also along the coast. Green lawns, palm trees, and flowers were covered in thick snow, an extremely rare phenomenon for this region. Georgia Heavy snowfall disrupted transportation in western Georgia, leading to train cancellations. In Kakheti, public transport was suspended, and in Poti, about 6,000 residents were left without electricity. In Batumi, where winter temperatures usually hover around +10°C, severe cold and heavy snowfall paralyzed the city, forcing round-the-clock cleanup efforts. Armenia On February 20, a powerful snowstorm hit Armenia, causing a transportation collapse. More than 1,000 accidents were reported in just one day. In the Mount Aragats area, snow cover reached 120 cm. Greece In northern Greece, temperatures dropped below -10°C. The extreme cold completely froze the Poly Potamos waterfall near Florina, astonishing even the locals accustomed to harsh winters. Turkey Turkey experienced its heaviest snowfall in 50 years. In Istanbul, transportation was severely disrupted, with large trucks stuck on inclines and at least 139 traffic accidents reported. Shipping through the Bosphorus was halted in both directions. Iraq In northern Kirkuk province, residents witnessed an exceptionally heavy snowfall — the likes of which hadn’t been seen in decades. Iran Severe snowstorms and freezing temperatures affected 25 out of Iran’s 31 provinces, worsening the country’s ongoing energy crisis. In the capital, Tehran, frequent power and gas outages forced the closure of all schools, universities, and government institutions. USA For the eighth time this winter, a powerful winter storm paralyzed dozens of states. Snowstorms caused travel chaos, with around 4,000 flights canceled nationwide. On February 19, Virginia Beach (Virginia) saw nearly 32 cm of snowfall. In Oswego County (New York), where over 180 cm of snow fell in just a week, the weight of the snow caused 26 building roofs to collapse. The Arctic cold and snowstorms led to more than 1,500 accidents and at least four deaths. In Detroit (Michigan), vehicles were frozen solid in ice after a massive water pipe burst. China On February 20, a massive avalanche struck Meili Xue Shan Mountain (Yunnan Province) after prolonged snowfall. Tourists caught in its path managed to take shelter in wooden structures, miraculously avoiding casualties or destruction. Authorities reminded the public: “Do not panic, and do not stop to watch!” This advice seems obvious, yet human behavior during disasters raises many questions. Why do people risk their lives — sometimes even the lives of their children — just for a dramatic photo near lava or for an adrenaline rush? Why do some choose to film avalanches or landslides instead of running to safety? Why, during earthquakes, do people prioritize saving material possessions instead of themselves? Even in situations without an immediate threat — such as heavy snowstorms — some insist on venturing out for trivial errands, only to require emergency rescue later… if they’re lucky. Observing global events, we find ourselves repeatedly asking: Why have people stopped seeing life as the highest and most irreplaceable value? Beyond climate, economic, and political crises, the core issue of our time is the crisis of valuing life itself. Survivors of life-threatening situations always say the same thing: "The most important thing is that I’m alive and my loved ones are safe." When we truly recognize the value of our own lives, we begin to appreciate the lives of others. The climate is giving us a chance to finally understand what truly matters. The world is changing dramatically. The challenge we now face will determine not just our future but the survival of all people. The world barely had time to recover from the climate disasters of 2024 before nature delivered another devastating blow to humanity. Although 2025 has just begun, the first three weeks of January have already become a real test for our planet. In this video, you’ll witness the most powerful, abnormal, and unprecedented natural disasters that occurred from January 1 to January 21. In January 2025, the United States faced three powerful winter storms. The first storm, starting on January 3, swept from Kansas to New Jersey. Over 350,000 homes lost power, and seven people died. The second storm hit the southeastern states on January 9, bringing heavy snowfall and resulting in thousands of flight cancellations. A state of emergency was declared in five states. The third storm began on January 20, causing heavy snowfall and extreme cold along the Gulf Coast. Wind chills dropped to unprecedented levels of -18°C (0°F) in some areas. In Alabama, a 143-year record for daily snowfall was broken. Starting January 7, wildfires raged across Southern California, burning 16,000 hectares. The fires claimed 28 lives, forced the evacuation of more than 200,000 people, and destroyed over 12,000 buildings. The damage is estimated at over $250 billion. While Algeria in North Africa experienced unusual cold and snowfall in the desert from January 1, Russia saw unexpected warm spells instead of its typical Epiphany frosts. Buds started blooming on trees, and snowdrops appeared. On January 9, the temperature in Armavir, Russia, reached +17.5°C (63.5°F). In Lithuania, early January brought autumn-like weather with heavy rains and floods, accompanied by wind speeds of up to 29 m/s (65 mph). Saudi Arabia was hit by torrential rain, hail, and thunderstorms starting on January 6, causing sudden and severe flooding. On January 17, a powerful storm struck Sicily, Italy, bringing unusually early tornadoes and widespread destruction. From January 15, a series of powerful storms battered Australia's east coast. Wind speeds in Sydney reached 120 km/h (75 mph), uprooting trees, damaging roofs, and downing power lines. Over 200,000 homes lost power, and one person died in the storms. Scientists are warning about a troubling trend of steadily increasing seismic activity. Earthquakes with magnitudes of 5.0 have become almost daily occurrences in recent years and are now seen as normal. However, earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.0 and higher have become more frequent over the past six months. This trend has already gained momentum in early 2025. In just the first three weeks of the year, seven such earthquakes were recorded. The most destructive occurred on January 7, when a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. More than 600 aftershocks, with magnitudes of up to 4.4, followed the main quake. The earthquake destroyed dozens of villages and over 3,600 homes. Tragically, 126 people died, 188 were injured, and thousands were left homeless in harsh winter conditions. It was one of the strongest earthquakes in the region in decades. The dynamics of climate disasters we are witnessing precisely match the mathematical model presented by an international group of scientists years ago. Recent forecasts for 2025 offer little comfort. The intensity of natural disasters is expected to increase by 12–15% compared to 2024, which was already a record-breaking year in many respects. Without any action from humanity, there is no reason to expect this trend to slow down. Unfortunately, previous warnings from scientists about the growing frequency of disasters and the need for the population to prepare were largely ignored, resulting in many preventable tragedies. Timely responses to these warnings could have averted some of the suffering caused by humanity’s unwillingness to face the truth. Today, both individual countries and the planet as a whole have been given specific forecasts of climate threats. Proposals and solutions for countering these challenges have been put forward. Iceland On January 2, a series of underground tremors was recorded near the Grettirvatn volcano, lasting about 40 minutes. Notably, the last eruption of this volcanic system occurred in the 10th century AD. On January 14, a powerful swarm of earthquakes was detected in the northwestern part of the Bardarbunga caldera, with the strongest tremor reaching a magnitude of 5.1. What is particularly alarming is that the epicenter was at a very shallow depth—only 100 meters. Northern Mariana Islands The underwater Ahyi volcano, located in the Northern Mariana Islands in the Pacific Ocean, is showing signs of activity. Satellite images from January 2, 10, and 18 revealed plumes of discolored water, a characteristic sign of volcanic activity. On January 9, underwater pressure sensors near Wake Island confirmed this activity. Indonesia In January 2025, Indonesia's Ibu volcano showed a sharp increase in activity. During the first 20 days of the month, it erupted more than a thousand times. Ethiopia Seismic and volcanic activity is also intensifying in the Main Ethiopian Rift. The Erta Ale volcano, famous for its persistent lava lake over the past decades, erupted on January 13, 2025. Lava not only filled the crater but also overflowed, reaching tourist camps for the first time in 20 years. Hawaii, USA On Hawaii’s Big Island, the eruption of Kilauea, which began in late 2024, continues. Since the start of the eruption, eight lava flows have been recorded, with the latest occurring on February 3. Additionally, thin strands of volcanic glass, known as Pele’s hair, have been found in nearby communities, posing a risk to human respiratory health. Supervolcanoes – A Major Threat Supervolcanoes pose an even greater threat. Their powerful eruptions in the distant past have caused global catastrophes, wiping out life on the planet. Today, large cities are often located in their giant calderas. Sakurajima volcano is located within the Aira Caldera, one of the most dangerous supervolcanoes on the planet. On January 20, Japan's Meteorological Agency reported increased volcanic activity. Several explosive eruptions occurred before the end of the month, with ash plumes rising up to 2,700 meters above the crater and large volcanic rock fragments flying up to 1,300 meters away. On February 5, an earthquake of magnitude 3.1 was recorded near the Italian supervolcano Campi Flegrei, just outside its volcanic caldera. The earthquake's hypocenter was at a depth of about 2 km. Over the course of five weeks, 281 earthquakes with magnitudes of up to 3.3 were recorded in the region, indicating increased seismic activity. Concerns are growing over the state of this volcanic caldera because nearly half a million people live in the red zone, directly adjacent to the volcano. This surge in volcanic activity can be explained by several factors: 1. External Cosmic Influence on Earth's Core – This adds energy to the core, which, when converted to heat, increases mantle temperatures, makes magma more fluid, enhances the flow of endogenous heat toward the surface, and creates new magma chambers. 2. Pollution of the World's Oceans with Plastic – The ocean can no longer efficiently dissipate heat from the Earth's interior, leading to increased accumulation of internal planetary energy. For these same reasons, not only geodynamic processes but also large-scale climate changes and natural disasters are intensifying. This pattern fully aligns with the mathematical model presented by an international group of scientists several years ago. The forecasts for 2025 do not look promising. However, instead of focusing on the core issue and seeking solutions, humanity continues to engage in anything but what is necessary for the survival of civilization.
