Lovers rock is a style of reggae music noted for its romantic sound and content. While love songs had been an important part of reggae since the late 1960s, the style was given a greater focus and a name in London in the mid-1970s.
The roots of lovers rock lie in the last days of the rocksteady era and early days of reggae, with Jamaican and American singers such as Ken Boothe, Johnny Nash and John Holt enjoying international hits with versions of well-known love songs.

J.C. Lodge & Prince Mohammed - Someone Loves You Honey
Reggae MusicArtist: J.C. Lodge & Prince Mohammed Label: Ariola – 104.394, Dance Records – 104.394 Format: Vinyl, 7", Single Country: Netherlands Released: 1982 Genre: Reggae Style: Reggae-Pop, Lovers Rock Written By – J. Gibson - J. Gibson Written-By [Uncredited] – Don Devaney Record Company – Ariola Benelux B.V. Published By – Dance Records Producer – J. Gibson* 'Someone Loves You Honey' by June Lodge & Prince Mohammed was a number one record in the Dutch Top 40 in the summer of 1982, six weeks long. This Toppop recording, first broadcast on July 15, 1982, was very special. This is the story as published in the book '50 Years Toppop': 'The record company was unpleasantly surprised when only June Lodge got off the plane, alone. Prince Mohammed was untraceable. For a moment it looked bad for June Lodge's Toppop debut. But the Toppop team found a way around the problem: they found out that AVRO's tv-presenter Humberto Tan knew someone who could perfectly play the role of the rapping Prince Mohammed: Humberto's older brother, Patrice. The good-looking Patrice Tan played the role with the greatest ease. At the start of the song, while June Lodge sang her solo part, he was just sitting on the floor as one of the stand-ins. But the moment he had to perform his parlando, he got up and stood loosely next to June. She was visibly amused by the nice, relaxed, hip-swaying young man next to her, who then sang along to his part, full of bravado. Together they danced and sang the song to a successful conclusion as if they had done it like this for years. This is the actual video with Patrice Tan standing in for Prince Mohammed.41 views -

Though she isn't in my top ten, still she is on my chart Sitting in the back bench still she's a student of my class The way she love brings sweet, sweet memory maybe it's the beginning of her misery Because I don't care whose school she's been you see She still take lessons from me... No joke about it.54 views
