It doesn’t matter whether you watch this video or not
Alan Cie - Befriending WaterIn the upcoming few months I will share a lot of valuable content, packed with lots of information related to water safety and swimming here. This video ain’t it. Sometimes I feel the need to share something that is more heartfelt, unscripted and true insight into my soul. When this channel becomes bigger and I will be making much better content, I want to have something to look back to and see how far we’ve gotten. Since the first video I wanted to include some of my unedited and unscripted thoughts to be a part of this channel. It’s ok if you don’t like it or if it’s not interesting for you. These are for me and my kids. This is practice. And if you do stick around to watch and listen, I wanna say thank you. Hopefully we will cross paths at some point again. Hi, my name is Alan Cie. I learned to swim at the age of 32 and it changed my life. I'm making swimming and water an integral part of my life, my job, and my future business. I talk about anything that is related to swimming, water safety, and water sports. I’ve gained weight and I don’t like it | Maintaining fitness in your 30s
Alan Cie - Befriending WaterFor the first time in my life, I gained weight. I don’t like it. I never had to deal with this problem before and could always rely on my fast metabolism to remain fit and skinny. For the past couple of years, I’ve been really paying attention to my diet, my daily activity and fluctuations in weight. I can clearly see that I need to put more effort not just to reach my goals but also to keep my body functioning properly. That’s why I am increasing the amount of workouts I do during the week but also will start lifting weights which is something I hated to do all my life. I will document my progress so you can see how much stronger I get and I’ll take some photos before and after just so you can see that it’s not just talking. Subscribe to follow my progress. I’m no expert
Alan Cie - Befriending WaterRecently I’ve been in touch with someone within the Scottish swimming scene and had conversations about collaborating together. I wanted to produce some interesting videos aimed at people who never went to a swimming pool. I also wanted to arrange some interviews with their most senior employees who would be willing to help in educating YouTube about drowning and water safety. Instead I encountered scepticism and rather rude attitude towards me. Listen for yourself. Hi, my name is Alan Cie. I learned to swim at the age of 32 and it changed my life. Getting old is a privilege
Alan Cie - Befriending WaterAs I’m approaching 40 years of age I think about life and mortality a lot. But despite the inevitable I decided to deal with my middle age crises by revisiting my early life goals and fitness ability. In order to become an Ocean lifeguard I will have to step up my current workout regime and build a strong body despite it struggling to recover as quickly as in my teenage years. Follow along as I share my progress in upcoming months and years. Hi,& my name is Alan Cie. I learned to swim at the age of 32 and it changed my life. Even strong swimmers get caught by this
Alan Cie - Befriending WaterIt’s quite staggering how many people don’t realise that, swimming in open water is more challenging than doing laps in the pool. No matter how strong swimmer you are, you need to think about the waves, currents, rocks, underwater creatures, boats and more. You need to be able to handle swimming with an injury or tread water using only your legs. That’s why I believe swimming teachers around the world should include open water preparation and education in their lessons. Hi,& my name is Alan Cie. I will never be able to relax at the beach again
Alan Cie - Befriending WaterSince I began training as a lifeguard and learned about drowning statistics, my view on the world changed drastically. I became hyperaware about people taking unnecessary risks and exhibiting irresponsible behaviours in the water.. I also started noticing even the smallest signs of someone struggling in the water including kids in need of help when they get out of their depth. Now, always vigilant I cannot stay fully relaxed on my vacations, but I also have a higher purpose to replace it with. I like my new role and it feels more like a calling than a profession that I work towards so with excitement I’m going to continue my journey in educating others and becoming a protector for my family and people I come in contact with. Making friends at the marina
Alan Cie - Befriending WaterSince I can remember I liked hanging out around marinas and look at sailboats and yachts. This is only third time I went to the Fisherrow Harbour in Musselburgh but I always find it a relaxing place to be. Many times I thought of approaching a boat owner to talk about what it is like to own one but never followed through with it. Today it happened quite organically and I got to ask few questions and learn few things. Gary, the owner of the yacht you see in this video encouraged me to join a sailing club to try sailing for myself. This has been on my mind for a while now and it looks like I’m gonna take him up on the offer soon. Subscribe to follow how the story develops. Hi, my name is Alan Cie. The dream I’m working towards
Alan Cie - Befriending WaterOne of my fondest childhood memories is the time spend doing long walks with my parents along the beaches of the Adriatic and Mediterranean Sea. Despite my fear of water and anxiety toward huge waves, it was always my dream to live by the beach, so I could take a long walk like that everyday. This is what I’m working towards these days and hopefully you will see it come true in my next videos. Until then I make the most of my current access to the North Sea by cold water dipping every Sunday. Maybe it’s just another way to pay my dues before moving on to better things 😅 Hi, my name is Alan Cie. I learned to swim at the age of 32 and it changed my life. Taking things slow
Alan Cie - Befriending WaterSometimes going all in at full speed can be counter productive. I learned along the way that slowing things down and taking off pressure of learning can have a beneficial effect on your progress. From learning to swim to just about anything else in life, taking a step back and slowing down can speed up your progress in the end. Since today I’m going to be a proponent of being the slowest person in the swimming community. Let’s see how slow you can go? 😅 Go slow bro! Hi, my name is Alan Cie.
