From Babylon to Bitcoin, money calls forth to mind a wide spectrum of thoughts and ideas, emotions and passions, definitions, classifications and characterizations. In this course, we will survey and analyze the dramatic and much-contested history of money, beginning with the ancient world and proceeding through the early modern period, nineteenth and twentieth centuries, to the present day, with a discussion of where money may be headed in the future. By the end of this course, you will possess a firm grasp of the most significant transition points in the history of money, and with this knowledge, you will also possess a greater understanding of the currency issues at stake in today's world.
