Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is considered the most important German literary figure of modern times. He was a poet, playwright, theatre director, novelist, scientist, critic, artist and statesman. Gerard Croiset was a gifted Dutch psychic and healer. His mentor, Professor W. H. C. Tenhaeff, called him a "paragnost," a word meaning "beyond knowledge". Placed in foster homes when he was 8, he lived with six different sets of foster parents. His memories of his days in an orphanage were probably the unhappiest of his life. He was unable to keep a steady job, went bankrupt when he tried to run his own grocery store, and in 1935, had a nervous breakdown. After the Nazis occupied Holland in May 1940, the Gestapo arrested him. But the one event that changed Gerard Croiset’s life occurred after the war in 1945 when he met Professor Tenhaeff. Rear Admiral Sir Francis Beaufort was an Irish explorer, hydrographer and officer in the Royal Navy, who dedicated his entire life to mapping the coasts and seas of our planet and improving the safety of those who travelled by sea. Beaufort was the creator of the Beaufort Scale for indicating wind force, and also promoted the development of reliable tide tables around British shores, inspiring similar research for Europe and North America. He was a council member of the Royal Society, the Royal Observatory, a founder of the Royal Geographic Society and a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. So a man whose life was dedicated to science in its best sense, discovery that benefits his fellow man and saves lives. But he couldn't swim and had a profound experience when he nearly drowned. ============================ CREDITS BACKGROUND Sir John Barrow was appointed Second Secretary to the Admiralty by Viscount Melville, in 1804, a post which he held for forty years (apart from a short period in 1806–07 when there was a Whig government in power). In his position at the Admiralty, Barrow was a great promoter of Arctic voyages of discovery, including those of John Ross, William Edward Parry, James Clark Ross and John Franklin. The Barrow Strait in the Canadian Arctic as well as Point Barrow and the city of Barrow in Alaska are named after him. Barrow was a fellow of the Royal Society and received the degree of LL.D from the University of Edinburgh in 1821. A baronetcy was conferred on him by Sir Robert Peel in 1835. Thomas Charles Lethbridge better known as T.C. Lethbridge, was an English archaeologist, investigator of spiritual phenomenon and explorer. He wrote twenty-four books, becoming particularly well known for his explanations and research into dowsing. His archaeological work used a pendulum and Lethbridge discovered many artefacts and sites by dowsing. After graduating at Cambridge university, he became Keeper of Anglo-Saxon Antiquities at the university museum from 1923 to 1957. His adventuring took him to Jan Mayen island in the Arctic Circle, East Greenland and North West Greenland. But Lethbridge resigned from the university museum in 1957, preferring to research the area in which he had become the most interested - the spiritual. Lethbridge came up with a theory which is now known as the Stone Tape theory that memories can be captured and stored like tape recordings in bricks and stones. And it was during his psychometric experiments that he discovered that ancient objects preserve the stink of the dwellings they were in. Psychometry is the ability to read an object’s event history. It is like reading the 'mind' of inanimate objects - such as clothes, rings, pots, necklaces, or figurines. Professor William Denton (1823-1883) of Wellesley, Massachusetts, was a naturalist, explorer and geologist. His wife was called Elizabeth. William himself was born in West Yorkshire, England. The Dentons as a family were great collectors and lovers of butterflies and they travelled the world as a family collecting them. Perceptions act like a log of everything that happens to us. It is a little like a cine film, but with the addition of all our sensations - smell, taste, sights, sounds, touch and emotions. People who have near death experiences sometimes go through this log, and it is then called a "past life review". They feel as though they have lived their current life again. But there are some people - principally young children - who seem to be able to relive a life that wasn't theirs. Children are able to have these experiences up until the age of four or five. The past lives they remember are often those where the end of life has been unexpected, possibly violent and accompanied by trauma.
