Chapter 1: Feral Man “Somehow, Max always seems to lose the Black on Black. The opening cutscene throws Mac into yet another dance with devils as War Boys pursue him and ends with his face in the sand. After Max’s vehicle is taken, he boards the main rig and lodges a saw into his adversaries’ head before being thrown back to the ground. Max gains a canine companion, but he’s now without a vehicle, water, and ammo. Run through the sand toward the green maker to gather water. Drink a bit to heal up, then follow the next marker to find the dog. Here, you’ll meet Chumbucket, a mechanic who was watching Max and claims that Max is a driver of prophecy, sent by the Angel of Combustion. He’ll free the dog and offers to stop the pup’s bleeding while Max gathers wire for Chum’s buggy. Eat some food to heal up, then follow the marker to find the wire. As you make your way to the maker you’ll face your first enemies. Use your shotgun for the first kill, then rely on brawling to clear out the other enemies. Once they’re taken care of, grab the wire. Before you leave be sure to gather the two pieces of scrap in the area. One is on top of the of a partially buried blue shipping container. Climb up the hill a bit and get a running start to your jump in order to get on top of the container. On the way back to Chum, Max will see a mysterious man walking away on a ledge. He’ll be back for you later. With the wire, Chum, the dog, and Max can drive to a scouting point. Max and Chum will scout out the Scrotus camp to see Max’s car being torn apart by War Boys. Chapter 2: Magnum Opus “Jump into the buggy with Chum and drive to the the hideout. Inside, Max will have a chance to stock up on some water before Chum introduces him to his new car, the Magnum Opus. Right now it’s just the bare bones, but Chum has grand ideas for the car. For starters, the car needs a body. Drive toward the Graveyard and stop at the first small camp to grab some scrap then defeat the Skrappa enemies at the second to get your hands on some fuel. While at these camps, be sure to gather all the scrap to save up for later. Refuel the Magnum Opus then grab another can and store it in the back. Head over to the Graveyard and use that extra can to blow up the gate. Make sure you walk close enough before to the gate before you throw the can or it won’t break the gate. Fuel respawns back at the previous camp if you mess up. The Buzzard camp is littered with dangling bombs, some of which will drop in your path as you drive. Dodge the ones that are already lowered, but the ones that drop will explode shortly after they’re down, so just wait for them to explode before proceeding. Max and Chum will reach the hanging car bodies. To get one, Max needs to run through a tunnel to get to the top of the platform. As you run through, be sure to collect the scrap before the zip line, one on the car body platform by the zip line, and the last close to the car bodies. Along the way to the platform Max will find a flashlight. Finally, it’s time to choose your car body. The car bodies are merely aesthetic, so choose the one that appeals most to you. After Max lowers the body, Buzzards will attack. Evade the fast shiv attacks and collect it once the enemy is defeated. Take out the rest of the Buzzards, lower the bridge, and get back to the Magnum Opus to escape. Chapter 3: Righteous Work “Talk to Chum in the hideout to start the next mission. Help Gather the five scrap parts to help Chum build the harpoon. Then, run to Chum’s bunk to grab the jag tip. Now that you have the parts, talk to Chum and you’ll be redirected to the Garage in the pause menu. Build the base harpoon and tussle bar ramming grill. Next up for the Magnum Opus is nitrous. Exit the hideout and take out three scarecrows by ramming them or using the harpoon. After they’re destroyed be sure to pick up the scrap from the debris. Once done, head back to the lookout point to scout out the camp with the binoculars. Jump back into the Magnum Opus and begin your assault on the camp. Take out the sniper and the flame pipe with the harpoon, then ram to gate to gain entry. Once inside, take out the War Crier immediately. If you don’t, his allies will attack more fiercely once the War Crier finishes his song. Clear the area and grab the scrap (1/10) hiding in the shipping container, the historic relic, and the scrap (2/10) under the dismantled car. Break down the door and take on the next group of enemies. Be careful for the War Boy’s shiv. After the enemies are down, grab the scrap (3/10) by the ledge and climb up to the next level. The storm will slow down Max, but it won’t do any harm. Destroy the Scrotus Insignia (1/3), head around the corner to fill up Max’s canteen, then grab the scrap (4/10) hanging on the wall. Run across the bridge and head up the ladder first. Exit the room to collect some shotgun ammo and scrap (5/10). Head back down the ladder, and down the the other ladder to descend to a new floor. Walk through the hallway and go down yet another ladder. Collect the scrap (6/10) and head down the path that’s on the left of the chair. Go into the hole and use your shotgun to destroy a Scrotus Insignia (2/3) and gather the scrap (7/10). Go back from where you came and head up the ladder down the new path. Max will run into the weird man again, then will be allowed to follow the path again after a brief cutscene. Before you’re allowed to destroy the oil pump, destroy some basic War Boys with your superior brawling skills. Once they’re all down, run behind the pump to get scrap (8/10), destroy the Scrotus Insignia (3/3) that’s to the right of the pump, climb up the ladder to the right of the insignia spot to get some scrap (9/10), then jump into the shack to the left of where you came entered and grab the final scrap (10/10). Now, destroy the oil pump with a gas can and get back to the Magnum Opus. Follow the marker to meet up with the mysterious wastelander, Griffa. Here you’ll get to sue your first few Griffa tokens to upgrade various skills for Max. Leave the area and use the flare gun to call Chum. Get back in your car and then install the dual nitro boost in the garage menu. Chapter 4: Into Madness “While Max and Chum plan out their plans for the Magnum Opus’ engine, Chumbucket’s hideout is attacked by Stank Gum’s Legion. Explosions erupt from all sides. The pair jump into the car and escape the flames, but with Chum’s workshop destroyed, the two will need to find new shelter and a workshop. Drive to Jeet’s stronghold, but be sure to stop at Vantage Outposts to reveal all the objects in the terrain and explore areas for scrap and supplies. Jeet will begrudgingly let you in once you reach his stronghold. He knows Chumbucket, but he isn’t fond of him. Jeet thinks Max is crazy for wanting to go to Gastown, but makes a deal with Max. Jeet's resources will be made available to Max if he can reduce Scrotus' influence in the area, but first, he requests that Max takes a look at The Jaw before seriously thinking about going to Gastown. Before you take off, however, you need to construct a sniper rifle. Gather the trigger mechanism for Chum then test out your new weapon. Afterwards, drive to Dead Barrens Pass. While you make your way to the pass, be sure to take out Scarecrows to reduce Scrotus' threat in Jeet's territory. Take out two snipers that are positioned at the lighthouse at Dead Barrens Pass, then drive up to the entrance. Before you exit the Magnum Opus, Chumbucket will shoot his harpoon at the building. Quick pull the harpoon, then climb up the structure. Once you're at the main platform, take a right and climb up the ladder. Grab the scrap (1/5), then climb back down to the main path. Before taking a right into the structure, go down the latter to the left of the skull paintings on the container to find some scrap (2/5). Head back up and continue on into the structure. Get ready to take of a few enemies. A shielded enemy will charge Max. Evade his attacks and try to hit him from behind. Once defeated, you can pick up his weapon and use it to take out his comrades. This area has plenty of goods, including scrap (3/5) to the right of where you entered, a historic relic in the back room on the right, a water spot just past that, and the last bit of scrap (4/5) just past the water hiding in a corner on the side of the structure facing the road. Run up the stairs and climb the winding path to reach the lookout point. You'll find some sniper rounds on your way up. When you enter the lighthouse, go down the stairs and a latter to find the last scrap (5/5) in the area. Climb back up the lighthouse and scout out The Jaw.
