How to make a bottle top balloon slingshot
These simple slingshots are super easy to make in just a few minutes, and can be tons of fun. You can use anything for ammo, from airsoft BBs to small rocks outdoors, or mini marshmallows and wads or paper indoors. If they break, just replace the balloon.
These might even work as an EDC survival slingshot for small game. (very small)

An EDC Hard Hat? The Ergodyne Skullerz Bump Cap
So, maybe you live in a city where brick, sticks, and bike locks are frequently swinging through the air, and you are wondering if there is a way to protect your head without wearing a helmet all the time. Well, maybe. A bump cap is a great option for folks who work (or live) in places where they might need a little head protection. And if you don't need the protection, then a bump cap is great for keeping your sweaty hats...hat shaped...after you wash them.

Estwing Camper's Axes | The best axes for the weekend camper
Estwing axes are made in the USA and are a really solid option for a general-purpose camp axe. They are a great option for an axe that is going to get tossed in the truck, or in the shed, and only go out of camping trips. They need little to no maintenance and are solid enough to handle some misuse, so no worry about the occasional over strike.
These aren't going to be falling trees or bucking up your winter's worth of firewood (I guess they could) but for a general-purpose camp axe for the average weekend camper, it is hard to beat these for value.

Did I really need a DIY toolkit on a road trip?
Well, yes, I did use my DIY toolkit on our recent trip. There are probably some tools that need to be added, a few I definitely don't need, and some that were surprisingly useful. I think having more than just a few pocket tools, or a car repair kit can be a great asset on a long trip.

Warrior Poet Society Fox Folder Review | A tactical utility knife, or just tacticool?
Yes, the audio and video suck. Feel free to leave a comment about it. I have done what I could in my remote location away from home.
The WPS Fox Folder is marketed as a fighting tool and versatile utility knife, that Batman would carry. I think it does fall somewhere in between a self-defense knife and an EDC knife, and sort of isn't the best at either of those two jobs. But it is definitely tacticool, and a lot of fun to use.

EDC Failure | Planning for the tasks you might actually need to do
Sometimes when putting together an EDC setup, it is easy to get carried away with what looks the best, what tools/toys are the coolest, and sometimes function takes a backseat to form. And sometimes, we (and by we, I mean me) don't really think through the most common problems we might encounter, and the things our EDC gear is supposed to handle. Or maybe this is just a problem that I have: getting caught up with carrying some cool tools and neglecting to consider that a lot of the screws that need tightening are recessed or in difficult-to-access places, and those cool tools just won't do the job.
Speaking of screwdriver multi-tools, there are a lot of great ones out there. I really like the Kershaw Select Fire, but a knife isn't always a viable option. Let me know what other suggestions you have for a decent screwdriver EDC tool.

A Road Trip Tool Kit...For DIY Stuff.
Maybe I'm crazy, maybe I'm just an introvert who likes to hide out in the garage, (that one is definitely true) but spending a couple months away from home on an extended work trip seems really boring. I like to have little things to do. So I made a tool kit so I would have a few tools handy to do some things, just in case I find something that needs to be done.

Restoring Pulaski Tools That Were Left To Rust
I keep my eye out for old rust tools that can be restored and put back to work and have been collecting these Pulaskis for a little while. Some of these had been forgotten behind sheds or left in a bucket of scrap metal, one had been painted and used as garden decoration for who knows how many years. Decent handles have been hard to get recently, at least locally, but I found a couple and decided to at least put a few of these tools back to work. The Pulaski is an iconic tool, especially out here in the Pacific Northwest, and these tools deserve better than a rusty fate in a garden or a scrap pile.

Dickinson Trading Post Pocket Organizer / EDC Pouch Review
A few months ago, I ordered a few of these pouches, made by hand in the USA, from Dickinson Trading Post. And boy, I am a big fan. These pouches/organizers are simple but very useful. They are really well made, and I imagine they will put up with a lot of use. The prices are great. There is nothing to complain about, so go check them out!

Making a Leather and Wood Sheath for the CRKT Berserker
My CRKT Berserker needed a sheath...but the leather sheath that CRKT sells seems a little expensive. So, I bought the cheapest leatherworking tools, buttons, and rivets Amazon had to offer and made my own DIY sheath. I did a wood and leather combination design that I have only seen a few times, and it turned out pretty cool.

Giving Old Tools a New Life | Rust Removal with Evapo-Rust
I love hunting for old hand tools and restoring them to something usable. It is just so satisfying to see the rust wipe away and a clean wrench appear, ready for another 50-60 years of use. It is also pretty easy to find some pretty good quality tools this way if you are willing to put in a little bit of work to clean them up. And if you hunt at garage sales, estate sales, and watch your local online buy/sell groups, you can find some fine old rusty tools for next to nothing.
Vinegar is a very cheap way to clean rust off of metal, but it can be pretty harsh on the metal, and sometimes will eat away more then the rust. There are other methods for rust removal, like electrolysis, but I chose to go with Evapo-Rust for most of the tools I find because it is easy, and safe. It isn't cheap, but if you are cleaning enough things, it will pay for itself.

Modified KA-BAR TDI Pocket Strike | The knife KaBar should have made
I wasn't a big fan of the KaBar TDI Pocket Strike when I first got it. The sheath was ridiculous, the handle was uncomfortable, and it was just really disappointing. So I decided to fix it. I smoothed to handle out, cut the ring off and made it into a hook, and cut the sheath down into something reasonable that can be mounted in a variety of methods. It really is a much better knife now.

Building First Aid Kits | "Trauma" Kit and Pocket Kit
I am putting together a couple of first aid kits and thought I would show some of my processes. The first of these kits is a simple pocket kit, something to handle cuts and scrapes and the minor inconveniences that come up while out in day-to-day life. The second is a larger car or backpack-sized first aid and "trauma" kit to carry in my pack (or car). I am always tweaking and adding to my existing kits, and every year go through all of my kits to replace any expired items. Let me know your thoughts and opinions!
The pouches I used for these kits:

CRKT Berserker | Review and Thoughts
The CRKT Berserker is an axe that a Viking would...well, probably not use. But it is cool looking. It chops surprisingly well, especially after swapping the handle for a longer one. Because of physics. This isn't a super useful tool, but it is a lot of fun.

Pichi X2 Titanium EDC Pocket Multi-Tool | Impressions and Review
This is an overview/review of the Pichi X2 EDC tool, and is just my opinions after using the tool for short time. This is a brand new tool, a Kickstarter project that just started shipping out. Unfortunately due to some production issues, many (if not most) backers will not have received their tools at the time I recorded this. I think this is a cool tool, and while I certainly have my issues with the design, I definitely think there are plenty of folks who will love this tool. I mean, I liked the idea enough to buy it, so even with my criticisms, it is still a cool tool.

Ratchet Keychain EDC Tools | Gear Infusion EverRatchet and Nite Ize DoohicKey Ratchet Key Tool
Today I'm testing a couple of ratcheting keychain tools, the Gear Infusion EverRatchet, and the NiteIze DoohicKey Ratchet Key Tool. I've been using both of these tools quite a bit. I'm not really impressed with the EverRatchet, but it seems my biggest issues with the ratchet being hard to use have been addressed in a newer version of the tool. The DoohicKey Ratchet Key Tool is pretty cool, easy to use, and is pretty inexpensive, but it is very big for a keychain tool, almost too big for some pockets.
